Each year, His Holiness the Dalai Lama travels the world offering teachings and public talks to individuals from many different faiths and backgrounds. While His Holiness will also often bestow empowerments and initiations to coincide with these teachings, he continues to stress the importance of one attending teachings in order to provide practitioners with a better understanding of Buddhist philosophy.

On May 20th, 21st, 22nd, and 23rd, 2010 Healing the Divide and The Tibet Center are honored to host His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s return to New York City.

His Holiness will impart three days of teachings on Nagarjuna’s Commentary on Bodhicitta, and A Guide to the Bodhisattva’s Way of Life, by Shantideva.

On May 23rd, His Holiness the Dalai Lama will give a public talk entitled Awakening the Heart of Selflessness. His Holiness will discuss the process of realizing true selflessness and how this realization awakens a genuine caring for others. This is how we achieve inner peace for ourselves, a feeling of responsibility for the happiness of others, and ultimately a more compassionate world for everyone. The public talk will conclude with a short question and answer session.

Both events will take place at Radio City Music Hall.

Arrival

Due to security considerations, we ask that you please arrive at the teachings early each day, as all ticket holders and all bags must be searched upon entry. Doors will open promptly at 8:30 AM for the morning sessions, and at 12:30 PM for the afternoon sessions of the teachings. Doors will close each day at 9:15 AM and 1:15 PM respectively. There will be no auditorium admittance after this time.

For the Public Talk on May 23rd, 2010 doors will open at 12:00 PM and will close at 12:45 PM. Once again, please arrive early as there will be no auditorium admittance after this time.”

His Holiness will give a public talk in Indianapolis at 9:30am on May 14, 2010 at Conseco Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The program, expected to draw an audience from around the globe, will be hosted by the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center (TMBCC), the Indiana Buddhist Center (IBC) of Indianapolis, and the Interfaith Hunger Initiative (IHI) of Indianapolis, forging a new partnership among organizations whose mission of community outreach and growth is universal. Tickets for the public talk go on sale Saturday, January 16^th at the Conseco Fieldhouse box office or area Ticketmaster locations. General admission tickets are $25 and student tickets are $15. Indianapolis based Indiana Buddhist Center educates individuals about Buddhism and serves Central Indiana through neighborhood outreach programs. The Interfaith Hunger Initiative (IHI) is a program founded in Indianapolis in 2008 that calls together Jewish, Christian and Muslim leaders to reach across faith lines to enlarge engagement in ending hunger, to feed hungry people and to speak up for the hungry.

Arjia Rinpoche, Director of the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center, is pleased to announce that His Holiness the 14^th Dalai Lama will return to Bloomington, Indiana to give teachings on the Womb of Buddha: “The Heart Sutra” at Indiana University Auditorium May 12 and 13, 2010.

The teachings will be translated in Chinese, Vietnamese, and Mongolian. Please bring a small FM radio and earphones

His Holiness will give three teachings: on May 12, in the morning from 9:15 to 11:15 a.m. and in the afternoon from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. On May 13, the morning teaching will begin at 9:15 and end at 11:15 a.m. There will be no afternoon teaching. The topic of the May teachings is “The Heart Sutra.” This sutra (teaching of the Buddha) is a member of the Perfection of Wisdom (Prajñāpāramitā) class of Mahāyāna Buddhist literature. The Buddha gave this wisdom teaching at Rajagriha Peak in India after he reached enlightenment. It expresses the “heart” of the Buddhist religion as it expounds the importance of compassion and wisdom.

The TMBCC will present cultural programs at IU Auditorium on the evening of May 12. His Holiness will not be present at these events. Detailed information will be presented on the TMBCC website at a later date.

His Holiness will give a Public Talk in Indianapolis, Indiana on May 14, 2010 at Conseco Field House entitled “Facing Today’s Challenges with Wisdom and Compassion.” This talk is being sponsored by the Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center (TMBCC), the Interfaith Hunger Initiative in Indianapolis (IHI), and the Indiana Buddhist Center of Indiana (IBC). This will be the Dalai Lama’s sixth visit to the TMBCC. He first visited Bloomington in 1987 to dedicate the Janchub Chorten when the center was known as the” Tibetan Cultural Center.” In October 2007, he changed its name to the “Tibetan Mongolian Buddhist Cultural Center” to broaden its mission by including the Mongolian Buddhist culture. At that time, he gave teachings on Atisha’s Lamp to the Path to Enlightenment at IU Auditorium and a Public Talk at IU Assembly Hall entitled “Compassion, the Source of Peace.”
